We were treated to two variations created by brewer/owner Steve Ragan who chose to work with a base of Berliner Weisse using pilsner and wheat malt brewed in a controlled setting then barrel aging the finished product with fruit to give the fruit flavor, sweetness, fragrance and beautiful color. What I liked about this from a health standpoint is that when drinking this Berliner Weisse I wasn't tempted to add a artificially flavored sweet syrup that breweries offer in the German tradition. Those are not an option at Culture, this sour is finished off with fresh hand pressed fruit and left to barrel age for a month.
The sour red grape is my favorite and the tart cherry reminds me of my childhood, these two are exceptional in my opinion! This style may be a new one for you but I believe you will be madly in love, and both are on tap currently at Culture Brewing in Solana Beach. We would love to be invited back, possibly for a stout night because theirs are out of this world decadent!
I enjoyed getting to know some of the new additions to The Women's Craft Beer Collective and thoroughly enjoy this group of beer loving ladies right here in North County.
